Flash on iPhone Tutorial

Many people at agree that the lack of Flash on the iPhone has been more than just a little problem. Here is a tutorial on how to get it working:

Step 1: Make sure your iDevice is jailbroken. You still can jailbreak 4.0/4.01 as I am writing this post but rumor has it that this will end very soon. Just use http://www.jailbreakme.com

Step 2: Open Cydia and tap the Manage button on the bottom.

Step 3: Tap the edit button at the top of the page and hit add. This will allow you to add a new Cydia source which looks like any other web address. Go ahead and enter http://repo.benm.at/ and tap “add source.” Go ahead and hit done at the top right after you add the repo.

Step 4: To allow flash to load in Safari on the iPhone, we will need to install the package called “Frash.” To do this go ahead and tap search at the bottom and type in frash. Click on frash to go ahead and install it.

Step 5: Now that frash has been installed, flash based web pages should load fine. If you have SBSettings installed on your jailbroken device, search for frash again to install the toggle for frash. This will allow you to turn it on or off on the go, which could save a decent amount of battery life.

If you notice that Safari crashes some times or certain things do not load, this will probably be fixed over time. I believe frash is still in alpha stages so remember that things could still be a little unstable.

Flash Coming to Android 2.2?

Supposedly full support for Flash will be added in the next update to the Android OS. This is great news, not only to see how well it will perform on a mobile platform, but with Android now running on iPhones this could even be better news. Apple has obviously declared that they will no longer support flash, which is understandable in some cases. But until HTML 5 is widely used, this may be a valid alternative to have flash working on the iPhone platform.

Android Running on iPhone!

Video released this morning of the Android OS running in a 2G iPhone.  Supposedly will be able to run on all of the models eventually.  Definitely seems to run smoothly, and is able to dual boot! And with the recent announcement from Steve Jobs telling iPhone users to move to Android if they want porn apps, looks like they won’t have to after all…

Upgrade iPhone Carrier File Error When Jailbroken

Since I am still on iPhone OS 3.0 on my 3Gs, I had to update my carrier file manually through iTunes.  I am not going to post a tutorial on how to do this since there are hundreds floating around the web.  I did however have a small problem when updating the carrier file.  If you receive this error-“iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error occured (0xE800003D)” you need to ssh into your iPhone using putty or whatever client you like.  All you have to do is run this command “chmod a+rw -R /private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/” without the quotes which changes the permissions of this folder so you can update.  Everything should be fine after this.  You may need to restart your iPhone in order for MMS to start working.

Iphone MMS Tomorrow

Just installed the 5.1 carrier file on my 3GS today and I now have mms working a day early. Praying that AT&T’s network doesn’t explode tomorrow due to the large amount of bandwidth that is going to be used once everyone has MMS. From what I can tell lately, the browsing on my iPhone has been a tad slower than normal. Hopefully this is just due to network upgrades they say they are completing. I guess we will see what happens tomorrow once they turn it on for everyone :)

Help Please?
